Print Design and Production:
Since 1997, I have been creating print media in various forms. I am an expert in creating a brand to meet your needs as well as taking an existing brand and incorporating it into my designs—keeping your look consistent and clean. With over 19 years of experience as a graphic designer, I pride myself on being not only talented but reliable, fast, and creative. My work experience includes working in both a fast paced, office environment as well as working as a freelance designer. In both working environments, I have proven myself to be a creative thinker―solving complex design challenges while incorporating a company’s brand into my work. I am extremely organized and energetic and thrive when balancing multiple projects at once. In my experience, I have worked independently, as well as with creative teams, where I took simple ideas and implemented them into full blown marketing campaigns—incorporating the web, print, and social media. I am not happy until the client is happy. I will work closely with you to ensure that your design is exactly what you want. Your vision is the only thing that matters and I will not release a project to the printer until you are more than satisfied with my work.
As a freelance designer, I find myself managing multiple projects at once, as well as managing individual projects that are large and multifaceted in scope. One example of the latter, which holds a special place in my heart and best displays my skills as a manager, is serving as the Executive Director of an annual event in Pittsburgh called Handmade Arcade. As Executive Director, my responsibilities include: overseeing the planning, grant writing, and fundraising efforts; managing the budget and finances; designing and programming the handmade arcade website and blog; overseeing the public relations and marketing team; organizing applications (300+ per year) and jurying of applicants; working directly with the convention center event planners for our event which attracts over 9,000 people in one day; ensuring all permits and insurance are properly procured; overseeing marketing collateral; and organizing outreach and volunteers.
Web Design and Programming:
I create websites with the highest quality web design and coding. Your information needs to be accessible and easy-to-navigate. I will expertly design your website and its information for the highest quality results in search engines and ease of use. Your target audience is the most important piece of the puzzle, and I will thoughtfully design your website with them in mind. I specialize in custom WordPress websites. Why do I love WordPress? Once the site has been designed and programmed, WordPress has an easy to use administrative system that will allow you to update your content and pages with or without my help. I believe that clients should fully understand how to use and update their own websites, and I will work with you until you feel confident in managing your site on your own. All the websites I produce are W3C compliant. (The W3C is the organization that sets the worldwide standard for website design coding. Websites should always have W3C validated code as it ensures that your website renders correctly on different browsers and platforms, and it means your website is naturally search engine friendly.)
From November 2012 through November 2013, I worked as a freelance production designer for UPMC’s Patient Experience Communications Department. I was responsible for the creation of the hundreds of print pieces that were put directly into the hands of patients within the large UPMC network. While working with UPMC, I created 8.5 x 11 books, 4 x 9 tri-fold brochures, 4 x 9 booklets, 5.5 x 8.5 booklets, 11 x 17 posters, 8.5 x 11 flyers, 4 x 9 panel cards, and many other pieces that were custom sized and designed per the client’s needs. My work included patient handbooks; informational flyers, panel cards and brochures; binders of information; posters; postcards; custom created images for heart surgery and recovery information; custom maps; custom images for stroke booklets, and much more. My work can be found at UPMC Mercy, Magee-Womens Hospital, UPMC Montefiore, UPMC Northwest, UPMC Bedford Memorial, UPMC Passavant, UPMC East, UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Hamot, UPMC Shadyside, UPMC Horizon, UPMC St. Margaret, UPMC McKeesport, and many other UPMC facilities throughout the Pittsburgh area.
